It should be noted that, while the subject of this paper is silly, the analysis actually does make sense. This paper, then, is a serious analysis of a ridiculous subject, which is of course the opposite of what is usual in economics.

Hmm, judging by a lot of what goes on in economics (and academia more generally), “what is usual” now is what was unusual then. Consider Freakonomics-style economics these days, or the paper analyzing the effects of a tax on tall people, for example.
