We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this quote this morning.
I have always particularly enjoyed the phrase just before this iconic statement:
“There is no strife, no prejudice, no national conflict in outer space as yet. Its hazards are hostile to us all. Its conquest deserves the best of all mankind, and its opportunity for peaceful cooperation may never come again.”
It is my hope that someday such ‘peaceful conquest’ will be a reality.
It’s the final frontier. There is only so much you can do on this rock and space down here is getting scarce.
It’s so amazing to think that there is decent chance that we may experience a walk on the moon in our lifetime, or at the very least a few minutes in space.
A bit escapist perhaps, but I think space is ultimately the only way out for humanity.
In the mean time, I enjoy reading the twitter feed of the Phoenix Lander. It’s almost like being there yourself.
